“Having it all” doesn’t mean chasing wealth, status, or perfection. Although I certainly wouldn’t turn my back on more wealth! Instead, “having it all” centers around a life that feels deeply meaningful, spiritually grounded, and relationally rich—even if it’s messy or uncertain most of the time.
For me, “Having it all” might look like this:
- Living authentically—being honest about my doubts, struggles, and joys, especially in faith and relationships.
- Experiencing grace—both receiving it for myself and extending it to others.
- Being present—finding beauty in the everyday, not needing everything to be fixed or certain to find peace.
- Loving well—having deep, honest relationships where I and others are truly seen and accepted.
- Doing purposeful work—investing my time in writing, encouraging others, and exploring life’s bigger questions, not just producing or achieving.
- Holding tension—accepting that joy and sorrow, faith and doubt, longing and contentment always coexist.
It’s not about checking off external markers of success, but about being at peace with the mess, trusting God in the ambiguity, and living from a place of grace, presence, and relational connection.
That was the easy part. Determining whether this is attainable is a challenging question.
Perhaps for some, it’s more easily achievable, but for me, it’s tricky. I’d say each of those things is attainable to a certain degree. Whether or not they can all be attained at once, well, I certainly haven’t managed that.
The best I can do is try to posture myself toward those things every day.
